Cpl. Aaron Jefferson Adkins - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Aaron Jefferson Adkins enlisted as a private in Company C, 20th Regiment, Georgia Infantry on June 14, 1861. He transferred to Company I on January 3, 1862. He was appointed Corporal in January of 1863 and was captured at Richmond, Virginia on April 3, 1865. He was paroled on April 28, 1865. He was born in Warren County, Georgia, on November 7, 1842. He is buried in the Johnson Methodist Church Cemetery in Warrenton, Georgia.



Pvt. V.C. Covington - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. V.C. Covington enlisted as a private on September 10, 1861. Detailed in the Pioneer Corps in 1863. The roll for December 31, 1863, last on file, shows him present. His pension records show he surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 26, 1865. He was born in Jefferson County, Georgia, in December 1832 and died in 1912. He is buried in the Thigpen Cemetery in Avera, Georgia.

Capt. William Henry Douglas - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. William Henry Douglas was elected 1st Sergeant on September 10, 1861. On November 13, 1861 he was elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant and on April 19, 1862 he was elected as 1st Lieutenant. On July 1, 1862, he was wounded at Malvern Hill, Virginia. On January 28, 1863 he was elected Captain. He surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 26, 1865. He is buried in the Stapelton Family Cemetery in Wrens, Georgia.

Pvt. H.I. Harvey - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. H.I. Harvey enlisted as a private on September 10, 1861. On April 26, 1865, he surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina. He is buried in the Walden Methodist Church Cemetery in Stapleton, Georgia.



Cpl. W.R. Irby - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. W.R. Irby enlisted as a private on September 10, 1861. He was appointed Corporal in January 1863. His pension records show he surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 26, 1865. He was born in Jefferson County, Georgia, in 1836 or 1833. He is buried in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera, Georgia.

Pvt. Franklin Lazenby - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Franklin Lazenby enlisted as a private in May of 1864. He was killed at Cold Harbor, Virginia, on June 3, 1864. He is buried in the Adkins-Gibson Cemetery in Thomson, Georgia, in an unmarked grave.

Pvt. Amos J. Thigpen - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Amos J. Thigpen enlisted as a private on March 3, 1862. In 1864, his pension records show he was wounded in the hand at Petersburg, Virginia, and was at home on wounded furlough at the close of the war. He was born in Georgia and died in 1929. He is buried in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera, Georgia (Jefferson County).

Pvt. W.R. Thompson - Company I, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. W.R. Thompson enlisted as a private on September 10, 1861. The roll for August 31, 1862, shows him present. He was discharged and furnished a substitute. He is buried in the Thompson Cemetery in Avera, Georgia.

He was released at Point Lookout, Maryland, on June 22, 1865. He was born in Jefferson County, Georgia, in 1831. He is buried in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera, Georgia.

He transferred to Company F, 8th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry on September 29, 1864. His name appears, without remark, on a roll dated October 16, 1864. He is buried in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera, Georgia.
